Lighting Director

My career with BBCtv has seen me progress from camera assistant to lighting director, a post that I have held for 15 years. The experience gained in this time has proved an invaluable asset in my work.

My early years as an LD covered a wide range of productions including LE, Music, Drama, Sit-Com, Science and Features and Childrens. Among many examples my work included EastEnders, Top of the Pops, Hi de Hi (final series), Tomorrows World, Blue Peter and numerous game shows. Latterly my work has mainly been in Light Entertainment. Major productions have included Children in Need, Comic Relief, The Big Ticket and 2000 Today (The Milleneum Show). My credits also include The Man from Auntie, The Real Mcoy, Clive James, Danny Baker, Big Break, National Lottery Live, and Friends Like These.

My credits outside of the BBC include TFI Friday (Channel 4), Give your Mate a Break-pilot (Granada), The Staying in Show and Weather Front (Channel 5).

Included in the list of many international stars I have lit in performance in some of the above productions are Madonna, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Tony Bennett, Elaine Page, Elton John, and Luciano Pavarotti.

I have just completed another series of Big Break and a third series of Friends Like These. As a freelancer I have recently lit the fourth series of Friends Like These and was invloved in the lighting design of the Richard and Judy show on Channel 4. Current projects include a fifth series of Friends Like These for BBCtv.

I currently sit on the committee of The Society of Television Lighting Directors.
